This post is trying to show anyone interested in one method to drill and tap for a TH. If you don't have a drill press and try to tap free hand it could get real ugly. The TH needs to be counter sunk flush with the filed on/in barrel flat. Don't think a newbie can make that happen free hand. JMO.Mar 1, 2024. The 10 gauge has very good triggers so does the Navy Arms Pietta. The Pedersoli 12 gauge not so good.The trade musket is a .62 cal or 20 gauge smoothbore musket (flintlock). The over all appearance of the musket is very nice. It has a browned finished, instead of the standard bluing. The smaller sized, but similar looking 1861 is a .36. IMO, .44s are ungainly and overly heavy. While .36s are svelte and graceful... On top of all that, .36s are also more economical to shoot. Less powder and small projectiles, mean you get more per lb of lead.Concrete nails are easily found at your local hardware store. I wash and dry it first then fold several layers (5-6) of fabric slightly wider than the patch I want and use a sharpened hole saw in my drill press to cut the patches. In an hour I can make patches for all my BP guns to last me a year or more of shooting. F.Here, in Henry's case he has a Pedersoli Frontier rifle.
